Emahoy Tsegue Maryam Guebrou’s legacy in promoting piano music within our scociety is truly a treasure to be honored and acknowledged. Little was known about this Nun-Music composer until the release of her Ethiopiques 21 CD. She has fans across the globe and below are just a taste of raving remarks by various media outlet.

My favorite quote is:

“Here is a woman who invented her own musical language in order to feel closer to her God. The recordings that are collected in this record are blessed with a spiritual richness I’ve rarely encountered elsewhere in music. It possesses undiluted soul in its truest, rarest sense.”

Here’s what the Guardian has to say about Emahoy:

The Magnet Magazine says, ” Guèbrou’s humble, soulful, thoughtful solo compositions suggest she was raised on a diet of Satie, Debussy and Chopin—and indeed, as a child, she studied violin in Switzerland—but they’re also steeped in the gorgeous and melancholy scales or kiñits that make Ethiopian music so distinctive and alluring. The result is music that seems to come from an alternate-universe version of 19th-century Paris. ”
